Overview of discussions at the October 15, 2025 VVCA board meeting:

– VVCA to send request for grooming of neighbourhood cross-country ski trails to the City for consideration.
– provide letter of support for local resident promoting “Official Tulip and Flower Festival” next year. Possible newsletter article in spring.
– possible advanced ESL classes coming in VVCA January 2026 programming.
– Trees Canada planting along 14th Street may have some conflicts with proposed USask Stadium Square development roadway. City may need to move plantings to accommodate.
– discussion about state of trees in President Murray Park. No information from City or Parks yet. VVCA will form a committee to advocate for the park and meet with City. Article for newsletter planned.
– programs running well, with only Folkdance not going ahead this session. Winter session programs to be finalized by end of October.
– 2 basketball teams formed, one co-ed spuds and one girls mini. Games start this coming weekend.
– 2 soccer teams, one U7 and one U9.
– equipment for soccer and basketball is out to teams. May need new jerseys in the spring, depending on enrolment.
– rink snowblower needs servicing, will be taken in soon. There will be a work session at the rink this Saturday at 2PM to clear the rink of weeds and ready it for winter flooding. Need a new hose to fit around school portables. Need to contact rink board advertisers to renew board contracts.
– deadline for newsletter articles is Nov. 19 (next board meeting).
– community garden had last meeting of the year last week. Small surplus in finances. Compost was dealt with easier this year by using large City supplied containers.
– proposed regulation changes to allow underground parking under front yards of multiplexes – excavation and construction may damage trees.
– College Corridor plan: concern with plan to remove green space between housing and College Drive. Leave feedback on City site before plan goes to Council in November.
– infill group recommendations to remove or change side wall rule and site coverage may result in bigger houses but not more houses and lessen green space. Public consultation coming later in October.

Next meeting is Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 7PM in Brunskill School library. The general public is always welcome to attend.
