Overview of discussions at the February 25, 2026 VVCA board meeting:

– SUM Theatre will be presenting their Theatre in the Park for the 14th year! Preview show in Raoul Wallenberg Park on Thursday May 14. More details to come.
– Spring cleanup date changed to Saturday, May 30. Volunteers and trucks welcome!
– group looking at community issues surrounding the Colonial are hoping for a March meeting with Police liaison and others.
– Annual General Meeting will be April 15. Some board positions will be coming open: Secretary, President Elect, Member at Large.
– finances in good shape. Payment to program instructors will be coming up soon. Books sent to accountant for review before AGM.
– spring program registration is March 24 in Brunskill School front foyer. Program listings on the website. Winter programs running okay.
– rink light poles will be replaced soon – city has to coordinate with rink crew. Some old benches from Harry Bailey centre are available from the City – may be useful for seating by the rink?
– rink crew has been short-handed while trying to deal with multiple heavy snow falls. Maybe coordinate with school (band program? grade 8 grads?) for help? Call for volunteers on school’s Edsby portal.
– some Luther Tower residents are concerned about state of President Murray Park, so Judee will speak with them about plans. Judee asked for City contacts to coordinate possible planning of benches, lighting, dog droppings bag dispenser, etc.
– civics committee position statement on upzoning was tabled for consideration and more input. Include in newsletter and ask for feedback from community?
– 400 block Clarence Avenue development deadline for community feedback has been extended to March 5. VVCA to submit a letter opposing upzoning, but not density. Members are encouraged to do so as well.
– Provincial Cities Act is open for review. VVCA to submit a letter.
– next meeting is Wednesday, March 25, 2026 (usual 3rd Wednesday was not available).
