Saskatoon Public Schools trustee candidate forums set for October 18 in several wards

The nomination period for trustee positions on the Saskatoon Board of Education closed on Sept. 21.

A full list of nominated candidates is available on the City of Saskatoon elections page.

Voters will go to the polls on Wednesday, Oct. 26, as part of the civic election to elect 10 public school division trustees under the ward system. Trustees are elected to a four-year term of office that begins at the first meeting of the board following the general election.

Candidates were acclaimed in four of the 10 wards. Trustee candidate forums will be held Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the remaining six wards to allow voters to hear from candidates ahead of the election.

The forums will all begin at 7 p.m. and are scheduled for the following locations:

Ward 2 – Bedford Road Collegiate
Ward 4 – Vincent Massey Community School
Ward 6 – Brunskill School
Ward 7 – École Alvin Buckwold School
Ward 8 – Evan Hardy Collegiate
Ward 9 – Wildwood School

Saskatoon Mayoral Debate

Moving #YXE Forward 2016

The Saskatoon StarPhoenix and Broadway Theatre are teaming up to present a mayoral debate on Tuesday, October 11. It is important for the residents of Saskatoon to hear from the people who want to lead the city. All current candidates have confirmed their attendance at the event. The event is at 7:30 p.m. and is free to attend but tickets are required and will be available on September 23rd.

Liveable YXE Mayoral Forum

Liveable YXE will be hosting a mayoral forum at the Frances Morrison Library Theatre (311 23rd St E, Saskatoon). Prior to the forum, councillor candidates will be in attendance for one-on-one discussions with attendees. Come out and see what the candidates have to offer and become an informed voter.

Together with numerous partner organizations LiveableYXE have submitted a questionnaire to all 40 candidates in the civic election to turn their attention to issues in relation to equity/accessibility, urban planning/urbanism, environment, climate change, health, active transportation, public transportation, arts/culture, economy/finance, housing and food. They will be publishing their responses to this questionnaire on their website on October 5th.

Liveable XYE is an alliance of community groups dedicated to improving the liveability of Saskatoon with a focus on the 2016 civic election.

Election Day for the 2016 municipal and School Board elections is Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Polling stations will be open on that day from 8 am and 8 pm.

For more information about voter eligibility, where and when to vote, voter identification and other topics of importance to voters, please visit the City of Saskatoon site. The published 2016 Saskatoon Civic Elections Voters’ Guide will be sent to all households in Saskatoon as an insert with Bridges the week ending October 9 prior to the election. Voters’ Guides will also be made available at the Info Desk in the lobby of City Hall, and at all Saskatoon Public Library Locations.
