Research Participants Needed

Pain Knowledge Needs of Family Caregivers and Persons with Dementia: Role of Virtual Reality as a Training Modality

We are looking for people living with dementia and their family caregivers (family members or friends who assist with care or provide company for 4 or more hours/week) to volunteer to share their experiences about pain management and their opinions on virtual reality for pain education.

As a participant in this study, you would be asked to: complete a brief paper survey with questions about you (10 minutes), and an interview that will last approximately 60 minutes. The interview will be held in a location that is convenient for you (e.g., your residence, or a private meeting location at the hospital or university).

This study has been reviewed and approved by the Saskatchewan Health Authority Research Ethics Office (REB 19-19).

Launch into Life! Workshops

Helping guide the journey from adolescence to adulthood for individuals with autism or other neurological differences.

Launch into Life! Workshops provide parents, caregivers, and professionals support in creating an Individualized Transition Plan, and are an opportunity to develop goals, learn about community resources, and connect with others.

Workshop participants are provided with valuable information about the following topics:

  • Understanding and preparing for key transitions across the lifespan.
  • Managing health and mental health issues in autism and other neurological differences.
  • Navigating the change from pediatric to adult health and support care systems.
  • Finding the right social and recreational programs in the community
  • Creating a shared vision for the future.
  • Developing life and vocational skills.
  • Exploring volunteer and work opportunities.
  • Understanding housing and supportive programming options in adulthood.
  • Legal and Financial issues including guardianship and program funding.

Habitat Saskatoon Family Fun Day

There are so many different things going on in our lives, from running errands, to taking the kids from sports, to music lessons, to school and to friends. It can be hard to meet the desire we all have to give back to the community that we love. So you can to have some family time while giving back, we’re hosting Habitat Saskatoon’s first ever FAMILY FUN DAY – brought to you by our incredible friends from Montana Homes.

All you need to do is get some tickets and bring your family on June 15th, 2019 from 12-6pm to the Sutherland Curling Rink! Where we will have everything from fun games, to tasty food, to face painters, magicians, and music. It’s a great, inexpensive day out with the family, all the while helping other local families get a home to call their very own. This fundraiser is in support of Habitat’s Youth Build 2019. The goal is to provide affordable housing to 2 Saskatoon families – approximately 10 children. This project is a duplex style home being built by the Langham High School students through the Prairie Spirit School Division’s DiVinci Project. We will be moving the home to our Avenue W lot and partnering with local high schools, post-secondary schools and other local organizations to complete the project.

BRT Update

At the City Council meeting on April 29, 2019, City Administration will be presenting reports on the Bus Rapid Transit system as well as the Downtown Active Transportation Network.


On April 29, after over three years of technical work and public engagement, Saskatoon City Council will receive routing reports and recommendations on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the Downtown Active Transportation (AT) Network. The BRT system and Downtown AT Network are key components of the City’s Plan for Growth, supporting corridor growth and economic development by improving the mobility of current and future residents. They enable viable options to automobile travel, helping the City with sustainability, climate and population growth challenges that are becoming increasingly important to address.

Hazardous Waste

Household Hazardous Waste Days
Spring has sprung, and as residents begin their spring clean-up and purge, we urge them to put their waste in the right place. This includes disposing of their Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) material safely, and keeping it out of the landfill and other waste streams.

The City of Saskatoon and GFL Environmental are hosting Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Drop-off Days at a new location for the 2019 season, starting Sunday, April 7.

Swim and Play Day Camp

New! Swim & Play Day Camp 7-12 yrs.

A perfect 1-day camp for kids who like to have fun and keep active. Participants will spend the morning playing a variety of sports including soccer, Frisbee, tag and more. Campsite Reservations Open April 2 2019

Campsite reservations for the 2019 season kick off on Tuesday, April 2 with seasonal bookings.

For the first time, seasonal campsites will be booked on the new online reservation system.  Due to high demand for these sites, a queuing system will be used to ensure a fair process.

Reservations for seasonal campsites open Tuesday, April 2 at 7 a.m.  Reservations open at 7 a.m. on April 4 for group camping sites, and April 8 to 18 for nightly sites.

With the newly upgraded online reservation system, available at https://saskparks.goingtocamp.com, all campers need to create a new account.

In addition to its regular main weekly all-day summer camps, YAS is pleased to invite every Saskatchewan youth to one of its no-frills camps free of charge in Regina or Saskatoon during early July, 2019 as follows:

Expectations:
(a) These free camps are for youths who either will be attending one or more YAS 2019 regular main camp(s) or will not be attending any sports schools or camps at all other than YAS during July and August 2019 (i.e. no non-YAS basketball, no volleyball, no soccer, no hockey, no ringette, no football, etc.),
(b) We expect every youth enrolled in a free camp to remain at camp from start time to finish time every camp day including Friday, and
(c) These camps will fill up soon and we do not keep waiting lists, so we strongly urge those who register to be absolutely sure that they will attend every camp day, with no possibility that they will withdraw or not show up. Thank you.


What each Youth will receive at a YAS 2019 Regular Main Camp
An award-winning 30 to 35 hours of our “quick and smart” skills development program developed by and headed by professional “A” certified teachers who are also highly-accomplished basketball coaches who know how to make learning rewarding and FUN.
Small group and individualized attention for each youth due to narrow age ranges of camps (2 years), low youth to staff ratios, and a maximum 24 youths in the age group.
A wide range of weekly camps’ choices throughout July and August.
Air conditioned gyms.
Lots of free parking near the gyms.
Use of state-of-the-art leather basketballs all day every day supplied by Wilson Sports. The same basketballs used for games in the NCAA “March Madness” Tournament. YAS owns 350 NCAA Wilson basketballs in official sizes (7, 6 and 5). Youths do not have to bring their own basketballs.
Daily nutrition motivational mini-lessons (10 minutes) taught by sports nutrition experts.
A multi-screened numbered camp jersey immediately upon their registration.
Upon graduation from camp, a special-grip shot-development basketball to keep.
Upon graduation from camp, a Young Athlete Saskatchewan graduation medallion.
Upon graduation from a camp, a special invitation to return to YAS on Friday evening and Saturday morning and afternoon August 23 and 24 (or Saturday only) to be placed on a team for the popular IRONMAN Tournament. The “Ironman” will be two age-class tournaments at the same time, U 16 and U 13, in which every player will be placed on a balanced team to play equally in 8 games with 2/3 floor time in each game. Every player will received a medallion for finishing the Ironman Tournament as: FINALIST, CONSOLATION WINNER, or CHAMPION.
