Sport Fields:

The City of Saskatoon (City) is constantly reassessing pandemic developments to ensure the safety and well-being of staff and residents. At this time we are following the information being shared through Saskatoon Emergency Management Organization (EMO) who is in contact regularly with the provincial and federal health agencies. Under the current Public Health Order, all private and public gatherings – inside and out – are limited to a maximum of 10 people. Effective immediately, City Administration will not be approving any sport field rental requests for the months of April, May and June including and up to Tuesday June 30, 2020. Please note that this may be extended depending on the direction from the Government of Saskatchewan.

To assist with sport field operations and allocation planning, the Recreation and Community Development Division will send out a brief survey next week with a deadline to receive information the following week.

Property Owners Accessing City Parks

Reminder: Property Owners Accessing City Parks Require Permission

Spring is a busy time of year for projects in the yard and garden, and around the home. Saskatoon residents with property adjacent to a civic park may wish to use it as an access point for deliveries, equipment, or vehicles related to their projects. In order to ensure that parks are safe and enjoyed by everyone, any type of work in a park that requires vehicles or equipment, or restricts access, must first have approval from the City’s Parks Division.

The Parks Division will evaluate the request, conduct a site inspection, and if reasonable, provide approval. In order to minimize damage, vehicle access will be permitted only when turf conditions are dry and suitable for driving on. The property owner will be responsible for removing any litter or debris, repairing any damage at their own expense, and liable for injury that may occur as a result of the work. City inspectors regularly follow up on complaints and investigate damage to parks.
For more information or to request approval for your project, please call 306-975-3300 or visit www.saskatoon.ca/parks.

Learn to programs in SK parks

Learn to Fish
Learn to Fish will launch this summer at eight popular fishing destinations across the province. This program is designed to introduce fishing to beginners of all ages and to encourage proper fishing practices amongst these new users.

The program will begin with a classroom teaching portion where an experienced angler will introduce participants to the following topics: Fish identification, tackle and accessories, rules and regulations, how to cast, proper fish handling and much more! The teaching portion will be followed by a hands-on casting lesson, and once participants have the basics of casting they will have the chance to try their luck at catching a real fish! Program participants are not required to own/bring along any equipment as everything will be provided.

Learn to Camp!

The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport has an exciting new opportunity for those who are new to camping! The Provincial Parks have partnered with Coleman and Canadian Tire to launch a new Learn to Camp program aimed at teaching first time users the basics of camping.

Between June 27 and August 16 we are running Learn to Camp programs in three of our provincial parks. In this program participants will have a chance at a hands on approach; they will be lead through how to use different camping equipment such as a camp stove as well as some basic camping skills such as firing building, all of which is helping prepare then to go out on their own!

We are also offering a community outreach in which the participants will learn some of the basics of planning a camping, including what gear they will need, helping prepare them for the best experience possible. This part of the program is offered for free and we would love to come out to as many places as possible!
