Aurora Soccer Soccer Club in Saskatoon Saskatchewan would like to invite your team to our 22nd Annual Harder Avalon Classic Soccer Tournament.

Our tournament accepts U7s to U19.
Adults are also invited to enter our tournament, we have a mens, ladies and coed groupings. We have a rec and competitve competition, with the competitve 1st place winner winning $1000.00

Senior Social Isolation – Survey

The Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism, Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, the Canadian Red Cross (Saskatchewan), and the University of Regina’s Lifelong Learning Centre are partners in a collaborative project to reduce social isolation of seniors in south and central Saskatchewan. To assess the impact of our combined efforts, the Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit (SPHERU) at the University of Regina is conducting an evaluation for the project. Part of this effort involves gathering feedback from interested community members who are involved in issues affecting seniors.

For the purposes of this survey, interested community members are defined as those individuals who through a personal, professional, leadership, volunteer, or community-engaged capacity, find themselves supporting, observing, advocating for, or interacting with seniors in their community.

If you are an interested community member, we are asking for your assistance in this effort. The purpose of this survey is to gather understanding of broader community awareness about the social isolation of seniors. Your participation is completely voluntary and your answers will remain confidential.

This short survey contains a few background questions about you, your community, and what you think can and should be done to help reduce the social isolation of older adults. It will take about 5-10 minutes to complete. All responses will be kept confidential.

Your participation in this survey is voluntary. You may decline to take part in the research or exit the survey at any time. We would like to involve as many interested community members as possible in this process, so your unique input is greatly appreciated.

BENEFITS
You will receive no direct benefits from participating in this research study. However, your responses may help us learn more about how to develop the best programs to address social isolation of older adults in central and southern Saskatchewan.

RISKS
No risks are anticipated.

CONFIDENTIALITY
Your survey answers will be sent to a website where information will be stored in a password protected electronic format. This website does not collect identifying information such as your name, email address, or IP address. Therefore, your responses will remain anonymous. No one will be able to identify you or your answers, and no one will know whether or not you participated in the study.

CONSENT
Completion and return of the survey will constitute consent to participate and permission for the researchers to use the data gathered in the manner described.

The survey is being conducted by a team of faculty members with the University of Regina (Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit).

Neighbourhood Clean-up

VVCA ANNUAL NEIGBOURHOOD CLEAN UP

WHEN: Saturday May 12, 2018, 8:30am
WHERE: Brunskill School Parking lot
WHAT: empty out your garage, basement, storage room, or backyard; or shed! Bring your items to the large garbage bins that will be in the Brunskill school parking lot for disposal!

This is the event at which each year the same half dozen committed volunteers donate their Saturday morning to removing trash (think sodden couches), fire hazards (tree and bush clippings piled against wooden garages) and junk (the odd stove or three) from our back alleys.

You can help in two ways:
1) Bring your own junk to the dumpsters that will be parked at the back of Brunskill school on the morning of May 12th, 8:30 to 11:30 am (please do not use the small school dumpsters – you will get me in trouble) or
2) join us as a volunteer – just show up at the parking lot behind Brunskill by 9 am. You get an extra donut if you bring your own truck.

Colonization Road: Free film

Free film Wednesday March 21 at the Broadway Theatre
Saskatchewan Intercultural Association presents the 6th annual Reel to Real Anti-Racism Film Festival, featuring “Colonization Road” followed by a panel of speakers.

Synopsis: In towns throughout Ontario, there are startling reminders of the colonization of Indigenous territories and the displacement of First Nations people. Anishinaabe comedian and activist Ryan McMahon takes us to his hometown of Fort Frances and down its main drag, which is called Colonization Road. Similar streets have similar names in towns and cities across the province, direct reminders of the Public Lands Act of 1853 and its severe impact on First Nations, their treaties and their land in the name of “Canadian settlement.” On his journey through Ontario, McMahon explores the history of these roads, meets with settlers in solidarity and raises significant questions about “reconciliation” and what it means to “decolonize.”

There is an online survey that is currently open www.saskatooncentrallibrary.ca and the Library is hosting an Open House March 28 / 4 – 8pm / Saskatoon Farmers’ Market.

City of Saskatoon Offering School Break Camps April 3 – 5, 2018

The City has teamed with EB Sports Academy, Jade Roberts and the University of Saskatchewan 7’s Rugby team to offer active and accessible camps for youth aged 10-14 during the spring school break.

The camps are free and youth can register for multiple sessions:

• Session 1: Tuesday April 3rd 9:00am – 12:00pm – Rugby
• Session 2: Tuesday April 3rd 1:00pm – 4:00pm – Rugby
• Session 3: Wednesday April 4th 9:00am – 12:00pm – Basketball
• Session 4: Wednesday April 4th 1:00pm – 4:00pm – Basketball
• Session 5: Thursday April 5th 9:00am – 12:00pm – Double Ball
• Session 6: Thursday April 5th 1:00pm – 4:00pm – Floor Hockey

A group of Czech teenagers sets out on a journey to the North. They reach Denmark and spend four years there in the midst of raging World War II. They survive and succeed in starting new lives. More than seventy years later, we hear their story

Program will include readings, a documentary and the commemorative candle lighting in memory of survivors and those murdered during the Holocaust.

AAA Downtown Cycling Network

The City of Saskatoon is inviting Saskatoon residents to learn more about the development of an All Ages & Abilities (AAA) Downtown Cycling Network. This network has been in development since fall 2017 when the Downtown Protected Bike Lane Demonstration concluded. AAA cycling facilities physically separate people riding bikes from drivers, thereby increasing the comfort and safety of all cyclists.

The network plan considers the following:
– Connection to Saskatoon’s wider cycling network;
– Integration with other key downtown projects such as Bus Rapid Transit and the re-opening of Traffic Bridge;
– Impacts to all users in the downtown in identifying the most appropriate streets to host AAA facilities.
