With the COVID-19 situation changing rapidly, Saskatoon residents are reminded to sign-up for notifynow, an important free public safety messaging service from the City of Saskatoon.
The notifynow system can send important public safety messages to citizens in a timely, trusted, and targeted manner. It’s important that when you sign-up, you tell us how to best reach you. Choose one or several of these communication methods:
· via a voice message to your home, work
· call to your cell phone
· email
· text message
You can also add family member’s addresses, such as your child’s school or parents’ home, through the customization tools.

Pelican Watch 2020
From Meewasin:
With the warming temperatures outside, we can’t help but have spring on the mind! It is always a bittersweet time of year at Meewasin, since it means the closing of the Meewasin rink for the season; but also means the launch of our Spring programs – including Pelican Watch!
Saskatoon residents have special visitors each summer. April through October, pelicans gather by the weir to fish. These birds, once on the endangered species list, have been a beautiful sight on the South Saskatchewan River since the late 1970s. For Saskatoon residents, their arrival is a harbinger of spring.
The contest
Guess the arrival of the first pelican to land at the weir for a chance to win a $500 prize pack, with a special pizza party for the youth winner’s whole class!

City of Saskatoon Spring Break Camps
Community Recreation has revamped the Spring Play Programs for 2020. The sessions are intended to engage children and youth in physical activities while developing new and improved skills. All equipment is provided. All programs are free to participate in and are intended for ages 10-14. All programs are led by qualified instructors. Participants must register in advance. Bike Lane Open House

14th Street East Corridor
Open house to discuss a bike lane along 14th Street from Cumberland to Sask Cres.
- present general information to the public regarding active transportation and neighbourhood bikeways;
- provide participants an opportunity to discuss concerns, considerations and possible improvements regarding all forms of transportation in their area; and
- to help inform the neighbourhood bikeway designs that will be specifically tailored for each corridor’s transportation needs.

May Open Houses
The objectives of the second phase of public engagement open houses, occurring in May (dates to be determined), will be:
- present the neighbourhood bike designs;
- communicate how previous public input informed the designs;
- collect public feedback on the designs to help prioritize the projects; and
- summarize public feedback on the designs for the final report to City Council.
At the completion of each phase, summaries of the engagements will be added to the Engage page.

Clarence Ave Water Main Replacement
Water Main and Lead Connection Replacement Project – Public Information Session Invitation
Earlier you were notified that during the 2020 construction season the City will be completing a water main and lead connection replacement project on Clarence Avenue between College Drive and 8th Street and on Aird Street between Clarence Avenue and Munroe Avenue. Since this notification, we have also added additional locations to this project which include:
- Temperance Street from Clarence Avenue to Wiggins Avenue South;
- The back lane of Aird Street and Temperance Street from Munroe Avenue to Wiggins Avenue South;
- Munroe Avenue from Temperance Street to Aird Street.
The water main and lead connection replacement project scheduled in your neighbourhood this construction season will include the following improvements and will occur in phases in order to minimize the disruptions to residents:
- Replacement of water mains;
- Lead connection replacements;
- Restoration of roadways, resulting in smooth, ‘like new’ road surfaces;
- Rehabilitation of sidewalks.

Winter Play Programs
City of Saskatoon Community Recreation has revamped the Winter Play Program for 2020. Throughout January and March there will be 6 learn-to sessions offered for children and youth between the ages of 6-12. The sessions are intended to engage children and youth in physical activities while developing new and improved skills in classic Canadian or Indigenous winter sports. All equipment is provided. All programs are free to participate in.
The learn-to sessions include:
- Snowshoe Making (10-12 yrs)- Tuesday, January 21 from 5:30-8:30pm at the Saskatoon Indian & Metis Friendship Centre
- Learn-to-Curl (8-12 yrs)-Monday, January 27 (PD Day for Public Schools) from 1:00-5:00pm at CN Curling Club
- Learn-to-Snowshoe (6-12 yrs)- Saturday, February 1 from 1:00-4:00pm at Dr. Seager Wheler Park Rec Unit

Safety Course
Learn about safety and security issues with Saskatoon Fire Department and Saskatoon Police Service.
Free 8 week course for older adults 55+ to learn about home and personal security, fraud prevention, internet security, traffic safety, elder abuse, K-9 policing, emergency preparedness, fire safety, fall prevention and when to call 911 and report an emergency.

Community Safety Report
Email and report from the Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners:

The attached report is in follow up to the issues raised by more than 80 residents and community group representatives, from all areas of the city, at the Board’s October 16, 2019 Community Consultation.
The Board of Police Commissioners listened to your views, captured the messages you delivered, and has identified the actions the Board can take, within the scope of its mandate, and is pleased to report this directly to you and your organization.”
2020 Construction on Clarence Avenue
In the 2020 construction season (May – October), an important water main construction project will occur on Clarence Avenue from College Drive to 8th Street East and on Aird Street from Clarence Avenue to Munroe Avenue. A letter was recently sent to those residents adjacent to the work area notifying them about this upcoming project.
The project occurring next construction season on Clarence Avenue and Aird Street is still in the planning stages so information is limited at this time. In the meantime, until more information becomes available we recommend that community members sign up to receive project updates prior to and during this project. To sign up, email the City at constructionupdates@saskatoon.ca and provide your name, address and contact information.
The replacement of older water mains and the lead service lines (lead pipes) that deliver the water services into homes in Saskatoon’s most established neighbourhoods is a priority for the City. In 2017, the City committed to removing all lead pipes by the end 2026.
The water main and lead pipe replacement project scheduled to occur in your neighbourhood next construction season will include the following infrastructure improvements:
• Replacement of 780m of water main
• Replacement of 48 lead pipe
• Restoration of roadways, resulting in smooth, ‘like new’ road surface
• Rehabilitation of sidewalks.
Over the next several months, the City will provide opportunities for residents to learn more about this important infrastructure project:
• For all residents who have lead pipes, a City representative will be in touch with you over the next couple of weeks to discuss the details and anticipated impacts of this work.
• In early 2020, an information session will be held in your neighbourhood where you will have an opportunity to learn more about the project and ask any questions you may have. • Prior to construction beginning, you will receive a construction notice with important information about the project.
